Jose Cobos, VISTA F3 Industry Relations Coordinator, represented VISTA and UC Merced on the “AI Across Sectors: Shaping the Future of Work” panel hosted by the Fresno Regional Workforce Development Board. Joined by colleagues from health, manufacturing (Stephen Avila), and ag education (Linda Thomas, Ed.D.), he discussed the mindset shifts and digital literacy skills needed for tomorrow’s workforce.

The panel emphasized staying curious, continuing to learn, and seeking out training opportunities—highlighting adaptability as a key strength as AI expands across industries.

Audience questions focused on access, equity, underserved communities, and whether we’re in an “AI bubble.” Cobos noted that despite rapid growth, true innovators will drive long-term impact.

He underscored the importance of UC Merced’s voice in these conversations as the university strengthens its leadership in AI, computing, and engineering.
