Jaimie Colores Flores feature in UC Merced’s Monday Memo Email

Role: Administrative Assistant for VISTA/ORED

Graduation Info: BA in Public Health, Class of 2024

Is there a staff or faculty member that had a positive impact on your time as a UC Merced student?

Absolutely! Three staff members made a huge impact on my undergraduate experience. Kisha McGuire from the Bright Success Center always provided guidance when it came to my career goals, especially during my final year. Juan Roman and Jose Navarro, who were my supervisors in Admissions, constantly offered opportunities for professional development and helped me grow as a public speaker through my work as a tour guide. I’m truly grateful for their mentorship and support throughout my journey.

What (if any) student organizations were you involved in that shaped your journey?

I joined Delta Gamma during my first year and eventually served as Vice President: Foundation, which meant I was in charge of our chapter’s philanthropy and service efforts. Being a part of Delta Gamma truly shaped who I am today by giving me a strong support system and so many opportunities for growth. I was surrounded by driven, goal-oriented women who constantly pushed me to pursue more for myself. As VP Foundation, I had the chance to organize events that supported our national philanthropy, Service for Sight, and lead volunteer efforts that gave back to the Merced community. That experience taught me how to lead with purpose, plan meaningful initiatives, and speak up for causes I care about. It also gave me lifelong friendships and helped me grow into a more confident version of myself. Being part of something bigger than yourself pushes you out of your comfort zone in the best way.

What is your favorite change that’s happened on campus since you graduated?

I graduated in May 2024, so not too much has changed yet—but my favorite update so far is the addition of Peet’s Coffee at the Lantern! One of my coworkers introduced me to her favorite drinks, and now I’m hooked. I highly recommend the Havana Cappuccino or the Horchata Cold Brew—they’re a game-changer!
